Media Partnerships

IMPAC3 has forged partnerships with major media outlets, so that deliberations and propositions made in Marseille and Corsica may gain traction.

Media coverage is essential because, even though the congress is essentially aimed at marine specialists, it also ambitions to raise awareness of conservation and sustainable-development issues among the public at large: the future of our societies depends on it.

National Geographic

The French edition of National Geographic is publishing a special supplement on marine protected areas, in partnership with the Agence des aires marines protégées and IUCN.

national geographic bdFounded in 1888, National Geographic is an institution among science-oriented popular magazines. In October 2013, on the occasion of its 125th birthday, it publishes a full check-up of the health of the oceans.  Feature papers include:

  • The Sundarban mangrove swamps in Bangladesh, fighting for survival in the face of climate change and economic development;
  • Ross Sea in Antarctica, and how not-so-sheltered habitats must be protected from human overexploitation;
  • The Florida Keys in the United States, where authorities strive to accommodate tourism and conservation;
  • Iroise Sea in France, where park managers, researchers and economic players join forces  to sustainably develop an oft-overlooked resource – algae;
  • …and many more stories from across the Blue Planet.

Printed separately in English and in French, the supplement will be bundled with the October 2013 issue of National Geographic, in France and in selected countries, to convey the mission of IMPAC3 to the larger public. It will also be included in each participant’s congress bag.

Commission of the the Permanent Conference of Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators

The Radio Commission of the the Permanent Conference of Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators (COPEAM) has chosen to organize its upcoming 2013-2014 co-production program around "Marine nature parks in the Mediterranean".

copeam bdSeizing this opportunity to enhance the public's understanding of marine protected areas, the Agence des aires marines protégées is lending technical and financial support to this initiative. This program will allow fifteen radio broadcasters to co-produce 10-minute segments on marine protected areas around the Mediterranean. This series will be aired in all participating countries in the Fall of 2014.

In order to launch their project, co-producers from more tha 12 different countries will be present in Marseille and Corsica on Oct. 25 and 26, 2013. There they will meet major conservation players and cover the congress news.

Founded in 1996 in Cairo, COPEAM bridges the shores of the Mediterranean by opening a forum for audiovisual and cultural players from 23 countries: radio and television broadcasters, independent producers, professional associations and cultural institutes, among others.

Besides organizing co-productions, COPEAM coordinates multilateral training programs focused on journalism, media production and new technologies. Just like IMPAC3 does in its own sphere, COPEAM is building a "network of network" where synergies emerge and experiences are shared, enabling all to better adapt to a changing world.
