Oct. 25, 2013 - Review of the five days of exchanges in Marseille, stressing the pivotal role of humans and their activities in marine protected areas, the quest for sustainable financing solutions, high-seas conservation and the development of networks of marine protected areas.
Oct. 25, 2013 - On the occasion of the 3rd International Marine Protected Areas Congress, Mr. Philippe Martin, French Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy, will travel to Ajaccio, Corsica, on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013. France, the organizer of the congress together with IUCN, decided to lend a political dimension to the event. It is therefore organizing, immediately after the debates in Marseille, a Ministerial Conference. To date, 25 ministers have confirmed they will attend. Chaired by Philippe Martin, this high-level political meeting aims to turn international spotlights onto the question of marine protected areas, in relationship with Aichi Target 11 (one of the targets adopted by the Convention on Biological Diversity). It specifices that 10 percent of the oceans must be protected by 2020.

Oct. 25, 2013 – Opening ceremony at Pharo Palace, under the high patronage of the President of France, in the presence of H.S.H the Prince of Monaco, of Mr. Frédéric Cuvillier, French minister for transports, the sea and fisheries, and of Mr. Jean-Claude Gaudin, mayor of Marseille. With Mr. Pierre Ghionga, president of the Corisca Environmental Agency, Ms. Julia Marton-Lefevre, General Director of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, and Mr. Paul Giacobbi , president of the French MPA Agency.
